FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How Can We Help?

WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT FOR MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?

Your first visit will begin with a thorough history of your concerns as well as a brief health and injury history. This is your chance to tell your story and for us to get to know each other.

Next, we will perform a physical exam to assess your range of motion as well as procedures that help us determine where your pain may be coming from.

As chiropractors, it is in our scope of practice to provide you with a diagnosis or refer you for further imaging if needed.

Then, we will discuss with you your report of findings, an individualized treatment plan, review the informed consent form, and then proceeding into the discussed treatment.

You are in control the entire way. Questions are encouraged and your treatment plan is individualized not only to your chief complaint, but also to your comfort.

WHAT DOES WHOLE BODY APPROACH MEAN?

As the old song olds, the head bone is connected to the neck bone... Perhaps you come in with some pain in your knee. In order to fully address the concern, we may assess adjacent areas of your body such as the hip or ankle to get a full picture of what is going on. Chiropractic care can be beneficial for a number of musculoskeletal concerns but we always want to get to the root of the problem rather than treating the symptom so this may mean additional questions about your health and activities that help us get to know you better.

DO I NEED TO PREPARE FOR MY FIRST APPOINTMENT?

Due to intake forms and paperwork, please plan to arrive to your first appointment 10-15 minutes early. This allows you to take your time with the paperwork and avoid feeling rushed.

No specific preparation is required! Wear something comfortable as you will likely be asked to move around. Restrictive pants or skirts can be limiting.

Bring your insurance card if you would like us to direct bill for you. If you are coming in for an ICBC or WorkSafeBC claim, we ask that you also bring your CareCard as well.

WILL I NEED A DOCTOR'S REFERRAL TO SEE A CHIROPRACTOR?

You do not need a referral to see a chiropractor. However, if you have an existing ICBC claim from before April 1st, 2019, or if it is over 3 months since the date of accident, we may need a referral for direct billing. Please call the clinic so we can give you more information.

DO I NEED X-RAYS?

In most cases, patients do not require x-rays when receiving chiropractic care. However, if upon further examination we feel you have a condition that requires further imaging, we will provide you with paperwork to obtain x-rays. This most likely will require a trip to your family physician to order the necessarily films. If you have x-ray images on file that may be related to the complaint you are coming in for, please try to bring in a copy of the report.

CAN YOU BILL MY INSURANCE DIRECTLY?

Yes! We will make every attempt to direct bill your insurance for you. However, in the event that we are unable to, we will provide you with the paperwork required to submit a claim manually. Providers that we are able to bill to include: Blue Cross, Manulife, Canada Life, Great West Life, Sunlife, and Green Shield. In Port Coquitlam, we are able to directly bill RCMP and Industrial Alliance as well.

IS CHIROPRACTIC CARE SAFE?

Chiropractic adjustments and treatments are safe for the majority of the general population. Part of the reason why your first visit is longer is to take the time to review any conditions in which certain procedures may incur the possibility of added risk. Chiropractic treatments are also variable and can be modified to accommodate certain conditions as well for both safety and comfort.
